Heute zog es mich wieder in die Wüste, diesmal stand Al Marmoom auf meiner Liste: das erste uneingezäumte Landschaftsschutzgebiet der Vereinigten Emirate, nur gerade 60 km und ca. 1 Stunde entfernt. Auf dem Weg sah ich ein Schild zu Pferdeställen und zweigte kurzentschlossen ab. Ich landete in den Bin Dhahi Stables in Al Selal und wurde freundlich begrüsst. Ich durfte die super sauberen Pferde wie Stallungen bewundern und erhielt Datteln, um sie als Leckerbissen den Ausdauer-Rennpferden zu füttern. : )

Today I was drawn to the desert once again, this time Al Marmoom was on my list: the first unfenced conservation reserve in the United Emirates, just 60 km and about 1 hour away. On the way I saw a sign for horse stables and spontaneously decided to turn off. I landed at Bin Dhahi Stables in Al Selal and was welcomed warmly. I admired the super clean horses and stables and was given dates to feed the endurance race horses as a treat. : )

Dann ging es ein kurzes Stück weiter zum Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve (https://www.visitdubai.com/en/places-to-visit/marmoom-reserve), das nicht ganz so einfach zu finden war. Ich hatte die Adresse aus Google kopiert, welche mich an einen anderen Ort führte… dort fragte ich nach und der nette Herr sagte mir, dass jede Woche hunderte von Leuten hier landeten… und er erklärte mir den Weg zum Eingang des Schutzgebietes auf der anderen Strassenseite ca. 5 km entfernt. Auch auf der Strasse ist Al Marmoom nicht klar ausgeschildert, aber ich fand es schlussendlich. Eine Naturpiste führte mich zur riesigen Oryxplatform, von wo ich einige Gazellen und eine Oryx Antilope von weitem sah… aber auch den künstlich angelegten Expo See und ein Flugshowtraining!

Then I drove a short distance to the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve (https://www.visitdubai.com/en/places-to-visit/marmoom-reserve), which wasn't that easy to find. I had copied the address from Google, which led me to another place... there I asked a nice gentleman, who told me that hundreds of people end up here every week... and he gave me directions to the entrance of the reserve on the other side of the road about 5 km away. Al Marmoom isn't clearly signposted on the road either, but eventually I found it. A dirt road led me to the huge Oryx platform, from where I saw some gazelles and an Oryx antelope from afar... but also the artificially created Expo Lake and an air show training!

Ich fuhr zum Expo See und traf eine Gruppe Inder, die dort ihr Zelte aufgeschlagen hatten. Ich hatte zwar mein Zelt im Kofferraum, aber keine Decken und nichts zu essen dabei – das nächste Mal!? Bis ich den Expo See verliess, begann es zu dämmern und prompt erwartete mich eine Oryx Antilope und eine Gazelle! : ) Ich erinnerte mich an meine Kindheit, als ich mit meinem Vater abends die Rehe beobachten ging… ja, die Dämmerung war die Zeit – und auch hier: Auf der Rückfahrt zur Strasse sah ich eine ganze Herde Oryx Antilopen bei einer Tränke! : ))

I drove to Expo Lake and met a group of Indians who had pitched their tents. I had my tent in the trunk, but no blankets and nothing to eat – next time!? By the time I left Expo Lake, it was starting to get dark and an Oryx antelope as well as a gazelle were awaiting me! : ) I remembered my childhood, when I went observing deers with my father in the evening... yes, dusk was the time - and here too: On the way back to the road I saw a whole herd of oryx antelopes drinking water! : ))

Auf dem Rückweg führten mich ein Hüngerchen und Lust auf Kamelfleisch ins Circle Mall. Wieder lagen die Angaben von Google daneben, denn in keinem der Restaurants im Einkaufszentrum stand Kamel Fleisch auf dem Menu, dafür fand ich das libanesische Restaurant Loui (https://louirestaurant.com) mit einer Terrasse im Freien und einen Gaskocher bei Speedex (https://www.speedextools.com), damit ich das nächste Mal bereit bin mein Zelt aufzustellen…

On the way back, a little hunger and a craving for camel meat led me to the Circle Mall. Again, Google's information was wrong, because none of the restaurants in the shopping centre had camel meat on its menu, but I found the Lebanese restaurant Loui (https://louirestaurant.com) with an outdoor terrace and a gas cooker at Speedex (https://www.speedextools.com) to be ready to set up my tent next time...
