Am Freitag Morgen beim Joggen begegnete ich Joe mit seiner grossen Kamera
an der Lagune. Als ich im Bikini angerannt kam. wusste ich nicht, ob er mich
wegen meiner knappen Bekleidung skeptisch musterte oder weil ich seine Vögel davonjagte!?
Ich war ebenfalls an den vielen verschiedenen Vögeln in der Lagune interessiert
und ging sie jeweils auf dem Rückweg meiner
Joggingtour für eine Weile beobachten… so auch heute! Und so direkt
und offen wie ich bin, lief ich auf den Fotografen zu und begrüsste ihn. Schon
bald fand ich heraus, dass er ursprünglich aus der Schweiz ist und
mit seiner Frau auf dem Rückweg aus ihrer zweiten Heimat Indien einige Tage in Salalah verweilt...
On Friday morning while jogging I met Joe with his big camera at the lagoon. When I came running in my bikini, I didn't know whether he was looking at me sceptically because of my scanty clothing or because I was chasing away his birds!? I was also interested in the many different birds in the lagoon and went to observe them for a while on the way back from my jogging tours... also today! And as direct and open as I am, I ran up to the photographer and greeted him. I soon found out that he is originally from Switzerland and was staying with his wife in Salalah for a few days on the way back from their second home India...

Schnell hatten wir Freundschaft geschlossen und ich lud
die beiden ein mit mir auf Entdeckungstour um Salalah zu kommen. Ich hatte ja
schliesslich ein Auto und war sonst immer alleine unterwegs… Es war eine willkommene
Abwechslung von meinen Bank Problemen und vor allem mit solch interessanten
Menschen! Es war auch schön wieder einmal zu sprechen, wie einem der Schnabel
gewachsen ist! : )
We quickly made friends and I invited them to join me on a discovery tour around Salalah. After all, I had a car and was always traveling alone… It was a welcome change of my banking problems and especially with such interesting people! It was also nice to talk naturally and in my native language after quite a while! : )

Am nächsten Tag holte ich Joe
und seine Frau Ines um 11 Uhr im Crowne Plaza ab. Wir
machten uns auf Richtung Westen und im Nu war die Stunde nach
Mughsail um - sooo vieles hatten wir
auszutauschen! Nach dem Bestaunen der offenen Höhle
und der heute ruhigen Blaslöcher von Marneef, setzen wir uns auf die Terrasse
des gleichnamigen Cafés.
The next day I picked up Joe and his wife Ines at Crowne Plaza at 11 am. We headed west and in no time the hour to Mughsail was over - we had so many things to exchange! After marvelling at the open cave and the today quiet blowholes of Marneef, we had a coffee on the terrace of the café with the same name.

Dann ging es weiter Richtung
Westen - ebenfalls Neuland für mich: Wir passierten
einen Militär Check-Point und zweigten ab nach Shaat, wo wir zu einem Aussichtspunkt und
einem Erdfall fuhren. Auf dem Rückweg machten wir
eine wohlverdiente Badepause an den atemberaubenden Stränden von Fazayah, die nur
auf Naturpisten erreichbar sind. - Wenn Fazayah nicht 75 km entfernt von
Salalah wäre, würde ich gleich nochmals hinfahren! : )
Thereafter we continued direction west - also new territory for me: We passed a military check point and turned off to Shaat, where we drove to a viewing point and a sinkhole. On the way back we took a well-deserved swimming break at the breathtaking beaches of Fazayah, which are only accessible via natural slopes. - If Fazayah wasn't 75 km away from Salalah, I would come back here more often! : )

Und weil es so schön war am Samstag und wir eine
gute Zeit miteinander verbracht hatten, holte ich Ines und Joe am Sonntag gleich
nochmals ab. Um 12 Uhr starteten wir unsere Tour vom Crowne Plaza in den
Osten von Salalah.
And because it was so nice on Saturday and we had spent a marvellous time together, I picked Ines and Joe up once more on Sunday. At 12 pm we started our tour from Crowne Plaza to the east of Salalah.

Eine Stunde später der Küste entlang erreichten wir
Mirbat, da war
ich auch schon vor 15 Jahren… es kam mir bekannt vor, nur erinnerte ich mich
nur noch schwach daran. Wir fuhren durch das verschlafene Städtchen zum Hafen, der mit
seinen vielen bunten Booten einen Stopp wert ist. Nur einige Kilometer südöstlich
befindet sich das Wynham Hotel (https://www.wyndhamhotels.com/wyndham-garden/salalah-oman/wyndham-garden-salalah-mirbat/overview) an
einem wunderschönen Strand, der
mich an die Bretagne erinnerte. Eigentlich wollten wir auf eine Exkursion aufs
Meer um Delfine zu beobachten… aber kein Mensch war weit und breit anzutreffen,
der uns informieren konnte…
An hour later along the coast we reached Mirbat, I had been there 15 years ago... it seemed familiar to me, but I only vaguely remembered it. We drove through the sleepy town to the harbour, which is worth a stop with its many colourful boats. Just a few kilometres to the southeast is the Wynham Hotel (https://www.wyndhamhotels.com/wyndham-garden/salalah-oman/wyndham-garden-salalah-mirbat/overview) on a beautiful beach that reminded me of Brittany. We actually wanted to go on an excursion to the sea to watch dolphins... but no one was to be found anywhere to give us information...

Auf dem Rückweg nahmen wir die Strasse durchs Landesinnere, die uns am Anti- Gravitationspunkt (eine optische Illusion: man denkt die Strasse führt aufwärts, dabei geht es abwärts) vorbei zur Stelle, wo einige Baobab Bäume wachsen – Willkommen in Afrika! ; )
On the way back we took the road through the interior, which took us past the anti-gravity point (an optical illusion: you think the road goes up, but it actually goes down) to the place where some baobab trees grow - welcome to Africa! ; )

Von dort war es noch eine halbe Stunde bis ins Wadi Darbat, wo wir ein erfrischendes Bad im Süsswasser nahmen und uns zum Sonnenuntergang ins Darbat Café setzten…
From there it was another half hour to Wadi Darbat, where we took a refreshing swim in the fresh water and sat down in the Darbat Café to watch the sunset...
