Ich habe wunderbar geschlafen in meinem weichen
Bett im Crowne Plaza Duqm (https://www.ihg.com/crowneplaza/hotels/us/en/duqm/dqqom/hoteldetail?), war
aber trotzdem schon ziemlich früh wach… perfekt um mich meinem Morgenprogramm
zu widmen mit Meditation, Yoga, Arabisch mit Duolingo sowie Planung meiner
Weiterreise. Um 9:30 Uhr begab ich mich zum Frühstücksbuffet, das viel Neues
anbot, was ich natürlich alles ausprobieren musste! Um 12 Uhr half mir Imran mein Gepäck im Auto zu
verstauen und los ging es 250 km und 3 Stunden zum Hafen von Shannah.
I slept wonderfully in my soft bed at the Crowne Plaza Duqm (https://www.ihg.com/crowneplaza/hotels/us/en/duqm/dqqom/hoteldetail?), but was awake quite early… perfect for dedicating myself to my morning routine with meditation, yoga, Arabic with Duolingo as well as planning my onward journey. At 9:30 am I went for breakfast, which offered a buffet with a lot of new things I had to try out of course! At 12 o'clock Imran helped me stow my luggage in the car and off I drove 250 km and 3 hours to Shannah Port.

Die Fahrt
war eher langweilig, meist Wüste mit mehr oder weniger Büschen und Bäumen - und plötzlich stand die Strasse unter Wasser: Ich folgte einfach den andern Autos! Kurz
von Shannah begann die weisse Salzwüste: eine grosse Fläche von Sand gemischt
mit Salz vom Meer. Eine lange Strasse führt über den Sumpf und dann übers Meer
zur Anlagestelle der Fähren nach Masirah Island, meine Destination für die
kommenden Tage…
The drive was rather boring, mostly desert with more or less bushes and trees - and suddently the road was flooded: I just followed the other cars! Shortly before arriving to Shannah the white salt desert began: a large area of sand mixed with salt from the sea. A long road leads over the swamp and then over the sea to the ferry landing point to Masirah Island, my destination for the coming days...

In Shannah Port hat es 2 Fähren: eine mit einem
Fahrplan, die andere geht, wenn sie voll ist. Es war 15 Uhr und nur die fast
volle Fähre war im Hafen… die andere würde in einer Stunde eintreffen und
zurück zur Insel fahren – also versuchte ich mein Glück! Eine halbe Stunde
später war die Fähre voll und wir legten ab Richtung Masirah Island. Die Fahrt
mit dem alten Kahn dauerte 1 1/2 h und kurz vor dem Ziel überholte uns die
moderne Fähre, die nur 1 Stunde benötigte!
In Shannah Port there are 2 ferries: one with a schedule, the other leaves when it is full. It was 3 pm and only the almost full ferry was in the harbour... the other would arrive in an hour to head back to the island – thus I tried my luck! Half an hour later the ferry was full and we set off for Masirah Island. The journey with the old barge took 1 1/2 hours and shortly before we reached the island, the modern ferry overtook us, as it only takes 1 hour to get there!

Im Hafen von Masirah Island angekommen, fuhr ich 40
Minuten Richtung Süden zum Masirah Beach Camp (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Masirah-Beach-Camp/327514024363333), wo mir
Mansoor ein Zimmer für 3 Nächte angeboten hatte. Er verweilte zwar zurzeit in
Muscat, aber der nette Mamoon zeigte mir verschiedene Optionen und ich wählte
das komfortable Zimmer mit Meerblick im gelben Gebäude. Ich war nicht die
Einzige im Camp, eine Gruppe Italiener übernachtete heute dort und Mamoon
bereitete ein Buffet zum Abendessen zu – perfekt, ich konnte mich einfach
hinsetzen und mich bedienen! : )

Once in the harbour of
Masirah Island, I drove 40 minutes south to Masirah Beach Camp (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Masirah-Beach-Camp/327514024363333), where Mansoor had offered me a room for 3 nights. He was currently
staying in Muscat, but kind Mamoon showed me different options and I chose the
comfortable sea view room in the yellow building. I wasn't the only one in the
camp, a group of Italians were staying overnight and Mamoon prepared a buffet
for dinner - perfect, I could just sit down and help myself! : )
