Heute Morgen nahm ich die 150 km und 1 1/2 Stunden nach Muscat zur Royal
Omani Police auf mich um endlich mein Visum zu verlängern... Es war Donnerstag,
der letzte Wochentag vor dem Wochenende in der arabischen Welt und um 14 Uhr
schliessen die Polizeistationen. Um nicht allzu lange in überfüllten Sälen
warten zu müssen, habe ich Ahmed von der Immigrationspolizei in Khasab,
Musandam, gebeten mir einen Kontakt zu geben und diesem mein Kommen und
Anliegen zu avisieren...
This morning I took the 150 km and 1 1/2 hours to Muscat to the Royal Omani Police to finally extend my visa... It was Thursday, the last weekday before the weekend in the Arab world, and the police stations close at 2 pm. Um 11 Uhr traf ich bei der ROP in Muscat ein, meldete mich bei der
Reception und zeigte die in
Arabisch geschriebene Notiz von Ahmed. Alles gut organisiert
und doch lief etwas schief: Ibrahim al Balushi war ausser Haus! Ich rief Ahmed
an, der dem Beamten am Empfang alles genau erklärte und nun war Warten
angesagt... eine geschlagene Stunde, bis ich in einen
anderen Raum geführt wurde, der überfüllt war nur von Frauen.
Dort musste ich warten, bis sich ein zuständiger Beamter melden würde... nach
einer halben Stunde rief jemand: As Suissria - und ich meldete mich sofort! Ich
erhielt ein Formular zum Ausfüllen, was eigentlich schnell ging, nur der Beamte
hatte etwa 10 Dinge gleichzeitig am laufen
und es dauerte nochmals eine halbe Stunde, bis er
meinen Pass mit Formular mitnahm um es zu prüfen... Schlussendlich um 13:30 Uhr
- eine halbe Stunde vor die Polizisten Feierabend machten und bevor mein altes Visum in 2 Tagen abläuft - erhielt ich einen
Monat Verlängerung meines Omani Visums für OMR 20 (EUR 45)! Da es nur im System registriert war und
nicht in meinem Pass vermerkt, liess ich eine Bestätigung ausdrucken... Uff -
schon mal etwas erledigt, aber immer noch mit einem
Fehler in meinem Familiennamen!
At 11 am I arrived at the ROP in Muscat, reported to the reception and showed the note from Ahmed written in Arabic. Everything was well organized and yet something went wrong: Ibrahim al Balushi was out of the house! I called Ahmed, who explained everything in detail to the receptionist and now I had to wait... for a full hour until I was led into another room, that was full of women only. I had to wait there until a responsible official would call me... after half an hour someone called: As Suissria - and I showed myself immediately! I was given a form to fill out, which was quickly done, only the officer did about 10 things at the same time and it took another half hour until he took my passport with the form to have it checked... Finally at 1:30 pm - half an hour before the police went into their weekend and before my old visa expires in 2 days - I received a one-month extension of my Omani visa for OMR 20 (EUR 45)! Since it was only registered in the system and not noted in my passport, I had a confirmation printed out... Uff - something already done, but still with an error in my family name!

Da ich schon mal in Muscat war, fuhr ich zum Al Khanjri (https://alkhanjrytransport.com) Busunternehmen, das einzige
mit Verbindung von Oman nach Dubai. Ich hatte mich schon in Sohar erkundigt wie
das so abläuft: Buchen und gleich bezahlen kann man nur vor Ort mit einem originalen Pass - nicht
online! Die Busse fahren 3 x täglich nach Dubai und sind immer voll, man sollte
also mindestens eine Woche vorher buchen. Der Bus fährt von Muscat über Sohar
nach Dubai, und weil ich mein Mietauto von Orbit Car Rental (https://orbit-oman.com) Ende März in Sohar abgeben
werde, buchte ich einen Sitz ab Sohar (5 Stunden Fahrt) für den 28. März für
OMR 10 (EUR 25) - ich wählte einfach mal ein
Datum, denn ich wusste ja nicht wo ich eine Woche vorher sein würde und ob ich
genug früh für eine Buchung sein würde!?
Since I was already in Muscat, I went to the Al Khanjri (https://alkhanjrytransport.com) bus company, the only one with a connection from Oman to Dubai. I had already inquired in Sohar how it works: You can only book and pay immediately on site with an original passport - not online! The buses to Dubai run three times a day and are always full, so you should book at least a week in advance. The bus goes from Muscat to Dubai via Sohar, and because I will be dropping off my rental car from Orbit Car Rental (https://orbit-oman.com) in Sohar at the end of March, I booked a seat from Sohar (5 hours’ drive) for March 28th for OMR 10 (EUR 25) - I just chose a date because I didn't know where I would be a week before and whether I would be early enough to book!?

Mit 2 wichtigen Dingen erledigt fühlte ich mich sehr erleichtert und
entschloss das mit einem guten Essen im wunderschönen Muttrah zu feiern. Ich
kannte Muscat bereits etwas von vor 15 Jahren und fuhr zum Hintereingang des
Souqs. Dort parkierte ich meinen Mietwagen und schlenderte durch den Souq zur
Corniche mit Ausschau auf ein gutes Fischrestaurant... Ich setzte mich ins
Royal House (https://m.facebook.com/profile.php/?id=100054208704028) und bestellte einen
grillierten frischen Fisch. Der war leider zu trocken um ihn geniessen zu
können, so begnügte ich mich mit den Zutaten und bezahlte die Hälfte des eh
überteuerten Preises! : (
With 2 important things done, I felt very relieved and decided to celebrate with a good meal in beautiful Muttrah. I already knew Muscat a little from 15 years ago and drove to the back entrance of the souq. I parked my rental car and strolled through the souq to the Corniche looking for a good fish restaurant... I took a table at the Royal House (https://m.facebook.com/profile.php/?id=100054208704028) and ordered a grilled fresh fish. Unfortunately it was too dry to enjoy, so I made do with the side dishes and paid half of the anyway overpriced price! : (

Müde von allen Erledigungen machte ich mich um 16:30 Uhr auf den Heimweg
nach Nizwa - nicht die beste Idee, denn ich stand 1 Stunde im Stau! - Es hat
einfach viel zu viele Menschen auf unserem Planeten...

Tired from all the errands, I headed home to Nizwa at 4:30 pm - not the
best idea because I was stuck in traffic
jam for an hour! - There are simply far too many people on our planet...
